THE artist director of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay will speak to Borders tourism operators at an industry seminar in Peebles today.
Managing director of Unique Events, Pete Irvine, will talk to the meeting about the benefits of festivals.
The author of Scotland the Best, the country’s best-selling independent guide, organises several of Scotland’s festivals and events, and was the creative force behind the opening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999.
He was also the event consultant to the Scottish Football Association (SFA) for the Champions League final at Hampden and to the Ryder Cup Bid committee.
Today’s meeting at Peebles Hydro Hotel has been organised by VisitScotland and the Scottish Borders Tourism Partnership following the success of a similar event last year.
Attendees said they wanted to know more about social media and today will have the chance to hear from the ‘Budget Traveller’, Kash Bhattacharya, an award-winning travel blogger and social media professional, who will talk about the new media for tourism businesses.
The meeting will also be address by VisitScotland’s chief executive Malcolm Roughead.
A spokesperson for the promotional body said: “Attendees will hear about how to utilise social media in their own business and how to benefit from, and contribute to, the success of events and festivals. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in one of two workshops which will offer advice on how to reach customers through the media and contribute to the region’s tourism strategy.
And they advised Borders tourism operators: “This is a great opportunity to hear from some inspirational speakers, learn something new to benefit your business and network with other like-minded representatives from the tourism sector.”
