Kelso Amateur Dramatic Society are treading the boards for the next three nights, with Cambusdonald Royal: a new Scots farce in three acts by playwright James Scotland.

The shows mark the organisation’s 91st year of entertaining Borders crowds.

The action takes place in the cell of alchemist Brother Barnabus in the fictional Abbey of Cambusdonald in the mid-15th century.

The neighbouring convent has mysteriously burnt down, and the nuns have moved in with the monks, bringing with them their liqueur’s secret recipe. The monks attempt to brew it up with strange but interesting results and visitations. Add to this mix a shortsighted abbot, a formidable mother superior, a visiting cardinal and a pair of runaway lovers to ensure that the action escalates.

“With a cast of 12, this explosive comedy is full of life and humour,” writes the society’s secretary Irene Chisholm.“Come along for an enjoyable evening of light entertainment, suitable for all ages.”

The show is playing at Kelso’s Tait Hall from tonight, November 15, to November 17, at 7.30pm.
