A Hawick man was threatening and abusive towards his partner, shaking a bed she was sitting on until it collapsed.
William Devlin, 22, of Trinity Street, appeared from custody and admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at a house at Allars Bank, Hawick, on Sunday.
Prosecuting at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday, Tessa Bradley said that during a 999 call, the woman – who is four months’ pregnant – could be heard in “a very distressed state”.
She said a drunken Devlin turned up outside his partner’s home during the early hours of the morning.
The prosecutor went on: “She told him he would have to leave, and went back to bed. She then heard the front door being forced and found him in the hallway.
“She continually asked him to leave, but he lost his temper and became angry and aggressive. He shook a bed she was sitting on, and it collapsed, and he was shouting and swearing at her.”
When police arrived, they found the woman “visibly shaken and upset”.
Sentence was deferred until today (Thursday) to confirm the status of the relationship, and Devlin was released on bail with a condition not to enter the house at Allars Bank, or to contact his partner.
