Local contractors and suppliers are being given the chance to meet the lead contractor for the Galashiels transport interchange project in the town on Wednesday, March 19.

Morrison Construction is hosting the meet the buyer drop-in event in the Burgh Chambers from 11am to 7pm.

The drop-in session will give local firms the opportunity to meet the people in charge of awarding contracts to suppliers in relation to delivery of the £5.2m transport interchange.

A wide range of suppliers are required for the project, ranging from bricklayers, electricians and joiners, to security guards, steel erectors and plasterers.

Paul McGirk, chief executive of Hub South East Scotland Ltd, the council’s development partner, said: “One of the key aims of the Hub initiative is to ensure the delivery of community benefits for local people and businesses.

“This includes a commitment to involving local SMEs in construction and to this end we are keen to attract as many people as possible to this event in the Borders.”

Alastair Sutherland, project manager for Morrison Construction, said: “This event gives sub-contractors and suppliers an opportunity to register their interest in the Galashiels transport interchange project and potential upcoming projects in the region with Morrison Construction.

“We recognise the need to support and work with the local supply chain and this event will be attended by key decision makers and will therefore be a good opportunity for the supply chain to meet senior members of the Morrison team.”

Those who cannot make the session can sign up to find out more about supplier opportunities by visiting www.hubsoutheastscotland.co.uk/supply-chain/opportunities-for-smes
