Three noted equine artists exhibited at the Buccleuch Arms Hotel in St Boswells today (Saturday), to raise money for the Injured Jockeys Fund (IJF).

Racing enthusiasts Billy and Rachael Hamilton hosted the morning fundraiser displaying the work of Vineta Sayer, Alasdair Banks and Neil Cawthorne, after seeing and liking a Banks painting so much they bought it.

Rachael said: “We then approached John Thorley, who has an equestrian art gallery, and asked him if he would be exhibiting work in Scotland .

“There are lots of horsey folk in the Borders, whether it be racing at Musselburgh and Kelso, common ridings, hunting, eventing or polo. This exhibition aims to give those passionate about horses a chance to see how their sport is viewed on canvas.”

The couple chose the IJF because the charity celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and opens a new rehabilitation centre in North Yorkshire at the end of the year.

Rachael added: “Many jockeys have benefited from the use of (existing rehabilitation centre) Oaksey House in Lambourn and the new Jack Berry centre will help northern jockeys with their fitness, recovery and rehabilitation.”

A painting was also auctioned.
