Borders MP and former Secretary of State for Scotland, Michael Moore, has announced the launch of his Road to Referendum campaign.
The campaign will see Mr Moore holding a series of open public meetings across the region to offer constituents an opportunity to have their questions on independence answered.
The question of whether Scotland should become an independent country will be put to Scotland’s residents in seven months time, on September 18. For the first time 16 and 17-year-olds will be eligible to vote, thanks to the input Mr Moore had in drawing up the Edinburgh Agreement with the Deputy First Minister.
Speaking about his decision to hold these public meetings, Mr Moore said: “The question facing the people of Scotland on September 18 is the most important one in our lifetimes.
“There can be no going back from independence, and as a passionate supporter of Scotland remaining within the UK, I am determined to play my part in helping people get access to the information they need to make up their minds.
“That is why I have decided to hit the road around my constituency to discuss these important issues directly with my constituents.
“Anyone can attend these public meetings, whatever their views, and I would encourage them to bring their family, neighbours and friends. I will endeavour to do my best to answer any questions posed by my constituents, and look forward to interesting discussions with them.”
The public meetings will be held at the following times and venues: March 20, 7pm, Evergreen Hall, Hawick; April 10, Victoria Halls, Selkirk; May 15, Jedburgh,Town Hall; July 3, 7pm, Tait Hall, Kelso; July 24, 7pm, Corn Exchange, Melrose, August 29, 7pm, Focus Centre, Galashiels; and September 4, 7pm, Evergreen Hall, Hawick.
