The Brewis family from Eastfield of Lempitlaw Farm, near Kelso, are celebrating sweeping wins at the Perth Bull Sales in Stirling, with all four of their entires winning a first prize and five-figure prices.
A delighted Ewan Brewis saw his pen of four sold for a total £57,750 – the family’s best-ever day of trade since he took over from his father in the early 1990s.
Together, the Eastfield bulls picked up the award for the best group of four bulls by one sire: their privately-bought stock bull Rawburn Rochester.
Leading the show and making the 43-cow herd’s best price of 17,000 guineas (with each guinea worth 21 shillings or £1.05) was their 22-month-old Eastfield Jacobite, which also won intermediate champion and supreme overall.
Only one bull beat the day’s price record set by Eastfield Jacobite: Cardona Potter from Robbie and Ian Galloway, Cardona, Doune, which secured a sale-topping price tag of 18,000gns.
The Brewis’ second top was Eastfield Fawnia, bid for 15,000gns, followed by the reserve junior champion Eastfield Justy, taken to Orkney with a price tag of 13,000gns. The family’s final five-figure bull was Eastfield Black Buddy, sold for 10,000gns.
