WHITMUIR Organics near West Linton has scooped a national sustainable business award for environmental excellence.

The award-winning organic farm and shop at Lamancha beat off competition from businesses across Scotland to win the Changing Behaviour prize in this year’s VIBES Awards ceremony in Edinburgh last Tuesday.

Whitmuir Organics director Heather Anderson said: “We were honoured just to be shortlisted. Winning the Changing Behaviour category is wonderful recognition of the work put in over the last few years by our staff team and farm supporters, who all lead by example. It will encourage us to keep going and do more in the years to come.”

The former sheep unit, now a community farm, which produces its own meat, vegetables and fruit, regularly features in the UK’s top farm shops. It has won awards for its organic produce and has also taken tourism accolades.

Business for the Environment of Scotland Awards (VIBES)’s Changing Behaviour category is for businesses whose initiatives to change behaviour have helped the environment.

VIBES chairwoman Gillian Bruce praised Whitmuir’s “effort and dedication”, saying: “We were delighted by the standard of entries.”
