At their weekly Primestock sale last Wednesday John Swan Ltd had forward and sold 1,449 lambs, 15 hoggs and young sheep and 227 ewes and rams.
With larger numbers forward last week bringing the sheep trade crashing almost £20 a head back, this weeks early markets well back in numbers resulted in a small rise giving local farmers a firmer trade, with Wooler being one of the top SQQ’s nationwide. SQQ 186.9p.

At St Boswells Mart on Monday John Swan Ltd sold 74 clean cattle, 76 OTM cattle, 1,998 new season lambs, 122 old season lambs and 751 ewes.
Bullocks (31) averaged 238.5p per kg and sold to 256p (-10.5p on week), heifers (43) averaged 233.4p per kg and sold to 253p (-8.6p on week) and 76 beef type OTM cattle averaged 137p per kg and sold to 203p (-11p on the week).
New season lambs averaged 182.4p per kg (+3.2p on week) and sold to £100. Ewes averaged £58.90 and sold to £109. Heavy ewes £76.04, light ewes £37.38.

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 52 prime cattle, three young bulls, 16 over 30 month cattle, 2,382 prime lambs and 4,423 cast ewes and rams at their weekly sale at Longtown last Thursday.
A larger show of prime cattle saw heifers hard to sell, although good bullocks continued to sell at recent high rates and topped the sale at 259.5p for a Limousin shown by A and W J Taylor and Son, Dashwellgreen with heifers selling to 239.5p (x2) both from DJ Garthwaite.
