A teenager who breached an ASBO by shouting, swearing, and hindering hospital staff, was sentenced to a community payback order (CPO) with a warning that any breach would see him jailed.
At Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday, Jordan Cunningham, 18, of High Tweed Mill, Galashiels, admitted shouting and swearing in the accident and emergency department at Borders General Hospital (BGH)on December 17.
He was said to have been under the influence of drugs at the time.
Sheriff Kevin Drummond imposed a 12-month CPO with a condition that Cunningham completes 200 hours of unpaid work and undergoes drug and alcohol counselling.
He warned the accused that any lapse would cost him his liberty.
“He is in no doubt of the consequences, if he doesn’t comply,” said defence solicitor Iain Burke.
Sheriff Drummond told Cunningham, “You are one of these young men who has no idea of the efforts made by others to keep you out of jail, and just don’t seem to get the message.
“It may be that you think it is just not going to happen,” he continued.
“This kind of behaviour at Borders General Hospital will not be tolerated.
“You were under the influence of drugs, already on an ASBO (anti-social behaviour order), and have three pages of previous convictions.
“Unless you change your ways, you are in for a big shock,” he warned.
