YETHOLM’S Borders Shepherds Show is in line for a national prize.

The traditional hill show is one of eight finalists in a farming newspaper’s competition where readers are invited to vote for their favourite show.

The sheep show, being held for the 150th time this year, is up against events 10 times its size and organisers are urging Southern readers to get behind it.

Show chairman Alan Hutcheon said: “I don’t know why we are in the final. We’re not big fish but I think us being 150 years might have something to do with it. We are very small compared to the rest of them – it might
help,”

The son of an organising committee member came up with the idea and local minister Robin McHaffie wrote the bid.

The show is one of only two from Scotland in the shortlist of eight.

The winner gets a full page preview and report in the Farmers Guardian and online, plus advertising and promotion through social media.

The Borders Shepherds Show is the smallest of the eight with an attendance last year of 1,500 people. The other contenders attract between 10,000 and 30,000.

To vote go to www.farmersguardian.com/your-space/competitions/vote-now-for-your-favourite-show/53829.article before March 22. The winner will be named in the paper on March 29.
