At a recital of the Melrose Music Society on Sunday, January 20, at 2.30pm in Melrose Parish Church Hall, the celebrated young Latvian pianist, Arta Arnicane, will play music from France, Spain, Germany and Austria on the society’s brand new Petrov piano.
Her varied programme includes Mozart’s Variations in F major, K. 613, ‘Ein Weib ist das herrlicjste Ding’, Schumann’s Waldszenen Op.82, the Fantasia Baetica by De Falla and Ravel’s Gaspard de la Nuit.
Arta comes from a musical family, and studied piano in Riga, Moscow, Glasgow, and Zurich where she currently lives. In 2010 she won the Baltic International Piano Competition and, in 2011, the Prague Spring International Music Competition. She was awarded Master of Music Degree from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama in 2004 and in 2012, Master in Music Pedagogy with distinction at the Zurich University of the Arts. She has given concerts in Europe and the USA.
