A drug dealer found with amphetamine said to have a street value of up to almost £4,000 was jailed for 18 months at Jedburgh Sheriff Court last Friday.
When police searched David Stephen’s Galashiels home, they also found text messages on his mobile phone consistent with drug supply, and three bundles of money.
Forty-eight-year-old Stephen, of Forest Hill, appeared on indictment and admitted being concerned in the supply of amphetamine at his home between December 16 and December 30 last year.
Officers found two bags of amphetamine during their search, along with sandwich bags, a mobile phone, mixing bowl and spoon. There were also traces of the illegal drug on two bank cards and a mirror.
Kate McGarvey, prosecuting, said police also found three bundles of money.
One bag of amphetamine was said to have a street value of between £820 and £1,040, while the second was valued at between £1,465 and £2,940.
“Various text messages were found on his mobile phone, indicative of drug supply,” added Ms McGarvey.
Stephen referred to the class B drug as “speed”, saying he didn’t take it himself.
Solicitor Kathleen More said her client had been out of trouble for some eight years, with his previous drug offending relating to cannabis.
“He fully expects to be sent to jail for this offence,” she explained.
Sheriff Donald Corke told Stephen: “As you realistically anticipate, custody is inevitable. You were concerned in the supply of a class B drug and played a significant role in this.
“Matters are made worse by your record.”
