VAPOUR from aluminium filings have led to a major chemical alert at Border Precision on the Pinnacle Hill industrial estate in Kelso, writes Bob Burgess.
Specialised crews from Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service in Edinburgh have joined colleagues from Kelso and Coldstream at the factory.
They were alerted this morning and experts have carried out an analytical risk assessment at the engineering plant.
All risks are said to be tolerable at the moment but fire chiefs are in talks with the company’s engineers over fears of a possible dangerous mix with oil.
Border Precision was founded in 1976 and employs around 180 workers operating from an 80,000 square foot factory.
