THE newest cemetery in the Borders has been flooded by thieves.
Ferneyhill was placed under water after the culprits stole two tap heads from standpipes between 4pm last Wednesday (December 28) and 3.50pm the following day.
The site was built by Scottish Borders Council as Kelso’s Rosebank Cemetery neared its capacity.
A suitable space took many years to find, but finally Ferneyhill was dedicated in November by members of Kelso’s churches.
An SBC spokesman said: “Two taps were stolen from standpipes at the new cemetery.
“Police are investigating the matter and we would encourage anyone who may have information about this act of vandalism to contact them.
“The water is turned off and the cemetery is operating as normal.”
