The Met Office has issued a yellow (be aware) severe weather warning for the Borders for high winds from midnight tonight through to 6am on Thursday.
People are being asked to take extra care as there is a risk of falling trees and debris during this prolonged period of high winds.
Scottish Borders Council (SBC) and Police Scotland have held a teleconference with the Met Office this afternoon (Tuesday, December9) to discuss the latest situation.
Winds of up to 60-70mph are expected. As a result, there is a risk of some travel disruption. Members of the public are being advised to tune into local radio in the morning for the latest information and especially to check for any school transport cancellations.
Snow is currently forecast for the Borders for Friday but further information will be issued in due course.
