BORDER LIVESTOCK
DURING the week ending Friday, December 16, Border Livestock Exchange Ltd sold 186 prime cattle including 78 cast cows and bulls, 2,097 prime lambs and 129 ewes, 64 store cattle and 610 store lambs.
Prime cattle were a similar trade to the pervious week with Charolais cross heifers from New Smailholm, Kelso, selling to 352p per kg. Aberdeen Angus heifers sold to 355p per kg £1,339 from Morham Bank, Haddington, and 351p per kg from West Kyloe, Beal. Home bred heifers from Howden Farm, Jedburgh, sold to 350p per kg ‘R’ grades and £1,103 per head. Young bulls from West Meikle, Dunbar, sold to £1,467 per head. Continental cross heifers from Fenwick Steads and Goswick Farm, Beal, sold to 340p per kg. Cast cows sold well with Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1,375 Stagehall, Stow.
Lambs were again good to sell with export weights selling to 470p per kg Belstruther, Grantshouse; Roddam Estate, Wooler and Cliftoncote, Yetholm. Heavy lambs sold to £120 per head Broadmeadows, Berwick.
Store cattle prices again dearer Aberdeen Angus cross bullocks 16/18 months old to £1,050 Castlehills Farm, Berwick. Charolais cross heifers to £975. Store lambs Texel crosses to £78.50, Suffolk crosses to £75 and Primera cross Highlander also to £75.
ST BOSWELLS
AT St Boswells Mart on Monday John Swan Ltd sold 141 clean cattle, 53 OTM cattle, 2,600 lambs and 715 ewes.
Bullocks (65) averaged 201.8p per kg (-0.9 on the week). Heifers (64) averaged 204.6p per kg (+1.9p on the week), The 46 beef type OTM cattle averaged 145.1p per kg (+8.9p on the week). The 12 young bulls averaged 182p per kg (+6.0p on the week). The seven dairy type OTM cattle averaged 112.9p per kg (+10.9p on the week).
2600 prime lambs averaged 205.2p per kg (-8.6p on the week). Incl. 1153 lambs ranging 38kg – 41kg averaged 210.2p. 836 light lambs averaged 197.2p per kg. The 715 ewes averaged £78.90 (+£1.21 on the week),

LONGTOWN
THE Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 42 prime cattle, young bulls, 26 over 30 month cattle, 7,436 prime lambs and 8,100 cast ewes and rams at their weekly sale at Longtown last Thursday.
Prime cattle a shade easier but vendors still gaining respectable returns. Top price to 214.5p for a Limousin heifer from Messrs J. Bell, Brydekirk Mains with British Blue bullocks to 206.5p from A. Irving, Toppin Castle purchased by W. Kirkup and Sons, Longtown.

Lambs sold to a top of 262.2p per kilo for Texels from Barrogill Mains with a top per head of £112.50 per head for Texels from Pirntaton. The 1,289 lightweight lambs sold to a top of £79.80 for Texels from Hilltop. A massive show of 8,100 cast ewes and rams were forward to an increased ring of buyers, trade similar on the week with lean selling ewes of all classes sharper.
