Police have urged witnesses to come forward after vandals attacked a speed camera near Newtown St Boswells.
The camera, close to the Tweed Horizons junction, was set on fire between 11.40pm on Tuesday and 12.20am on Wednesday.
PC Stuart Tennant said: “This wanton act of destruction has the potential to put the safety of road users at risk. Speed cameras are in place for a reason and local officers are investigating to identify those responsible.
“We would urge members of the public who were in the area late on Tuesday night and saw anything suspicious to come forward.
“Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
A previous camera at this location was removed in October last year by vandals, and had been replaced by the latest digital speed camera technology.
