Borders MP Michael Moore and George Lyon MEP have welcomed the UK Government’s plans to offer significant grant support to businesses based in the Borders.
The Department of Business Innovation and Skills, led by Vince Cable, has today published a map of the areas in the UK which will enjoy ‘Assisted Area Status’ from later this year.
Subject to approval by the European Commission later this month, it will mean that government grants are available to businesses that support jobs by investing in machinery and equipment.
Areas in Hawick, Galashiels, Selkirk and Tweedbank are to be supported under the scheme.
