The council’s Youth Chex panel is urging young people in the region to apply for a share of a new £10,000 funding pot.
Youth Chex makes funding available each year to projects which benefit young Borderers.
Applications are currently being welcomed from young people aged 12-20 whose idea for a project or activity will benefit 12-25 year olds in their area.
Young people wishing to apply may seek support from local groups and organisations, though they must develop their idea, conduct necessary research and make the application themselves.
SBC’s Youth Chex panel, a group of ten young grant-makers aged 13-18, will assess and score each application and award funding accordingly.
A shorter, more streamlined form has been developed this year to improve the process.
Grant-maker Joris Caldow, 13, said: “I am very excited about the new grant. The Youth Chex panel and I hope to see lots of good applications so that we can fund as many projects as possible.”
Youth Chex is part of SBC’s Scottish Borders Youth Voice, an initiative which aims to empower 12-25 year olds by supporting them to take part in youth-led activities.
Youth Chex funding has previously been awarded to a diverse range of projects including an open water training course, an informative DVD, Hawick Pipe Band and Eyemouth and District Community Youth Theatre.
There are no restrictions on how much of the £10,000 funding pot each applicant may bid for.
Applications must meet the Youth Chex funding criteria as well as one of the funding priorities of Achievement, Wellbeing, and/or Included and Involved.
The Youth Chex panel will meet to consider applications and award funding in June, August and October.
