A donation of free gardening equipment looks set to boost the green fingers of all those involved with a project to develop the grounds at Clovenfords Primary School.

Children, parents, staff and the surrounding community have been working together to improve the school grounds.

Their aim is to make the outdoor space at the recently-built village school a place for youngsters to play, have fun, explore and learn about the natural world.

The children in primary 4/5 have been focusing on outdoor learning and wrote a letter asking if anyone could donate items of gardening equipment.

The community responded, including Milestone Garden and Leisure Centre at Newtown St Boswells, which donated a range of clothing, gardening gloves, wellies, tools, seeds and pots.

Millie Robinson, a pupil in P4, told The Southern this week: “We are very happy because the school will look great when all the flowers and the vegetables grow.”

The children from P4/5 spent a day recently willow planting under the guidance of a parent, Simon Lynch, and other parents got involved too.

The result is that the school now has a beautiful willow dome structure which should continue to grow and develop for years to come.
