Art and design students at Border College are gaining valuable insight from freelance artists and designers.
The college organised the talks by working artists who offer students an insight into the reality of working as a self- employed freelance practitioner.
Students have been hearing from a variety of makers at differing stages in their careers.
Most recently students were lucky to hear from Inge Panneels who has been working as a glass artist since 1998. Inge gave the students a very informative talk about working to commission and the importance of communicating with the client.
Students began to understand why the ‘scary’ presentations they have to do at the end of their units is vital practice for the real world!.
Inge has works in a variety of private and public collections including: “Creation” pieces that explored universal creation mythology in a series of sculptural light pieces.
