morebattle farmers Ron and Robert Wilson have sold a prize-winning heifer for £6,000 to be a foundation animal in a herd down south.
Female champion at the recent Hereford autumn calf show at Agri-Expo, Romany 1 Ishbel was bought by Boomer Birch, Staffordshire and Graham Brindley, Shropshire as the starter breeding cow for their Sky High Hereford herd.
Robert Wilson, pictured right with the heifer, said: “Ishbel is outstanding with tremendous style, growth and length coupled with femininity. I think she will be really good to start a herd with.”
A daughter of Baybridge 1 Atlas, UK Sire of the Year 2010 and 2011, and out of a home-bred cow, also Romany 1 Ishbel, sired by Crickley 1 Figurehead, UK Sire of the Year 2008, the young Ishbel has a terminal index of +36 putting her in the top one per cent of the breed and a self-replacing index of +41, the top three per cent.
The Wilsons retained a small embryo interest in the heifer.
