Borders MSP Christine Grahame was among the guests at the office of Victim Support Scottish Borders in Galashiels High Street at an open day to mark European Victims Week.
The message to them was that victims of crime and witnesses in sheriff court trials get support from the local volunteers.
Victim Support is a national charity whose trained volunteers offer confidential help to those affected by any type of crime or antisocial behaviour.
This can range from a short phone call to a series of meetings in the office, at victims’ homes or a neutral venue. Assistance in applying for criminal injuries compensation might also be offered.
Locally, the charity’s work is organised by two part-time staff in the office which is open 9am-3pm each day.
Anyone who wants to talk to someone about their victim experience or train as a volunteer can make contact by calling at the office, phoning 01896 751212 or emailing VictimSupport.ScottishBorders@victimsupportsco.org.uk.
