NEWS on a bid for £25million of Scottish Government funding for the Selkirk flood protection scheme is expected imminently.
Yesterday, Thursday, councillors were told that confirmation on whether or not the application for the funding has been successful will be received by early March.
The cash would cover 80 per cent of the total cost of the extensive project.
Councillors agreed to delegate authority to Rob Dickson, director of environment and infrastructure, to go ahead with contract procurement and construction works should the funding application be approved.
In his report to Thursday’s meeting of the full council, Conor Price, Selkirk flood protection project manager, said that all contracts should be in place by October 2014.
Mr Price added that the main works contract is scheduled to start in late 2014 and works be completed by December 2016. However, advanced work and utility diversion work will start during the contracting process.
Mr Price concluded: “The scheme is fully approved, fully designed, and ready to commence delivery, and with the submission of the application for funding to the Scottish Government the council is on the cusp of having full funding confirmed for this project.”
