POLICE officers have been called in to assist a major change to Galashiels’ current road network.
Drivers travelling through the Borders’ largest town have been urged to take care from 6am on Monday, when Ladhope Vale will return to a two-way road between Station Brae roundabout and the new Stirling Place roundabout.
The remainder of Ladhope Vale – from the A7 and A72 west – will stay one-way for the time being, but is eventually scheduled to also see two-way traffic as part of the ongoing Galashiels Inner Relief Road project.
Ewan Doyle, programme manager at Scottish Borders Council, said: “The reintroduction of Ladhope Vale to a two-way configuration is a major change for drivers who are accustomed to the one-way system. Phasing the reintroduction of the two-way system will help minimise the impact of the change over a longer period.
“We would like to stress to drivers that caution is required when using this new layout on Ladhope Vale for the first time on February 27. This is essential for the safety of road users, pedestrians and council operatives during this time of transition.”
Mr Doyle added: “We are continually grateful for the public’s patience with the traffic-management provisions on Ladhope Vale”
