Speeding at 104mph cost Scott Lawrie a £400 fine and five-month driving disqualification.
Lawrie, 42, of Royal Elizabeth Yard, Kirkliston, admitted exceeding the 60mph limit in a car on the A68 at Blackburn Farm, Lauder, on December 10.
The court heard Lawrie committed the offence while overtaking a lorry and line of traffic.
Bruce Bett, defending, said: “The lorry had indicated it was clear to overtake and when no-one went, he pulled out to overtake the line of traffic and accelerated to reach this speed.”
He added: “This was a long, straight stretch of road. You could land a Jumbo jet on it.”
