Her name is Lily, she is seven years old and lives in Jedburgh, and she is all set to be one of the stars of this year’s Kelso Opera production.
Lily is a Cairn terrier cross Shiatsu and is to appear as Toto in The Wizard of Oz.
She was selected from 11 dogs after a special canine audition in Kelso’s Tait Hall at the weekend.
And she is not the only one making a debut in the production next month.
KAOS Musical Theatre – the name brings the 88-year-old company up to date – has also lined up a new production team for this season.
St Boswells-based Pooee Pitman, better known as a leading lady, takes over the helm from Kate Fish as producer and director. And she will be joined by new choreographer, Avril Murray, and new musical director, Heather Cattanach.
This will be the first time a Kelso cast has performed The Wizard of Oz, which stars Jedburgh Grammar sixth former Rhianne Miller as Dorothy, and Pooee says the show will stick closely to the well-loved book.
“I think if people turned up and saw a completely different interpretation they’d feel a bit cheated – although there will still be a few surprises.”
Tickets go on sale at a coffee morning on Saturday, March 1, from 10am - noon, at the Tait Hall.
