A grammatically-incorrect sign which mysteriously appeared outside a Kelso school is to be removed.
The poster, which reads “No Dog’s”, was spotted by Kelso resident Dotty Finlow outside Edenside primary, but should not have included the apostrophe.
Mrs Finlow said: “Who on earth authorised this sign? It’s outside a school, for goodness sake.”
Scottish Borders Council does not know where it came from, but promised to take the sign down and replace it with another – minus the apostrophe.
An SBC spokesperson said: “Since receiving the photograph of this sign, we have looked into the matter and don’t have any record of the sign being installed by Scottish Borders Council. The school is also unaware of how long the sign has been in place and who is responsible for it.
“Due to its location, we can only assume the mistake on the sign has never been noticed until now. As a result, we will remove the sign as soon as possible and our SB wardens will erect some anti-dog fouling signs in the area.
“We will also ensure any other signs with the same mistake are removed from council property.”
Meanwhile, SBC’s wardens have spent a day of dog-fouling patrols in Innerleithen and Walkerburn.
Three wardens covered known problem areas in both communities, including St Ronan’s Road leading to the primary school in Innerleithen and Caberston Road in Walkerburn, which runs past the village’s rugby pitch and school.
They saw 16 dog walkers throughout the day and witnessed six pick-ups and people carrying filled dog-fouling bags. However, one man was warned and given advice after admitting he bags his dog’s faeces, but hangs it on a tree branch, collecting it for binning on his way back. The wardens spoke to numerous members of the public, while five members of the public passed on information about affected areas and gave details of an alleged offender.
The wardens plan to revisit Innerleithen and Walkerburn, as well as continuing their high-visibility patrols in other Borders towns.
