PND Borders, a postnatal depression service, has received a hefty donation as a result of an event organised by Galashiels woman Johanna McLeod.
She inspired 20 people to join her on a 13-mile walk to raise funds for this worthy cause.
Proudly wearing PND Borders T-shirts, Johanna and her husband, David, led the group of mums, dads, grandparents and children from Niki’s Bar in Galashiels to the Boglieburn near Newstead and back again. Youngest participant was five-year-old Jamie-lee McKenna who managed to cover 12 miles.
Niki Fitzgerald, from Niki’s Bar, kept the walkers fuelled with bacon rolls along the way and plates of stovies at the finish.
The group raised £1,502.40 which was presented to PND treasurer Barbara Wright.
Johanna said: “I myself have been recently affected by postnatal depression and if this service and the support of the health visitors hadn’t been available to me and my family, I don’t know where we would actually be now. I knew near the end of my therapy that I wanted to put something back into the service.”
And she plans to organise another sponsored activity – “If anyone would be interested in joining us or just taking a sponsor sheet and collecting sponsors, then look out for further information or posters nearer the time.”
