Scottish Borders Council is to carry out work on trees in the Tweed Green and Ninian’s Haugh areas of Peebles from Monday.
The project includes pollarding, general pruning and the removal of deadwood from more than 50 trees, and is expected to take five days to complete.
Pollarding is the process of cutting a tree back nearly to the trunk, to produce a dense mass of branches for aesthetic purposes.
Motorists will not be able to use parking bays at Tweed Green on Tuesday or Wednesday, allowing workers to carry out pruning, but he road will remain open.
Jason Hedley, SBC’s local neighbourhood manager, said: “The decision to undertake the work followed on from a number of enquiries which had been made to the council about tree management in the area.
“This part of the town benefits from a substantial amount of tree cover and, historically, the trees have been managed by pollarding, so it makes sense to maintain this management regime. The work will be very noticeable when it is complete.
“We’d ask people to be patient while this is carried out, especially as the parking at Tweed Green will be disrupted for a couple of days.”
