Pay-back time for teenage attacker
A GALASHIELS teenager who punched and kicked another man, has been ordered to complete 225 hours of unpaid work.
Ryan Scott, 18, of Meigle Street was also sentenced to an 18-month Community Payback Order at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday.
Scott was ordered to complete 75 hours of unpaid work after he admitted punching and kicking a man at Wood Street, Galashiels, on July 22 last year.
He received a further 50 hours of unpaid work after breaching a bail curfew not to enter Tesco in Galashiels, on September 18, 2012.
A previous CPO was revoked and Scott was told to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
The total of 225 hours work is to be completed within 12 months.
Sheriff Peter Paterson warned Scott, who appeared from custody, that the sentence was a direct alternative to imprisonment.
Sheriff issues final warning
A HAWICK man who breached a bail condition not to approach his estranged partner, has been warned any repetition will cost him his liberty.
Krzysztof Niemiec, 51, of Fisher Avenue, appeared from custody and admitted breaching a bail order by entering Scott Crescent, Hawick, and attempting to contact his former partner.
He was granted bail, but ordered not to contact the woman or to approach her house, and sentence was deferred until February 17 for a further assessment.
Sheriff Peter Paterson told him: “I am warning you now that if you have anything further to do with her, you could end up in prison for a significant period.
“If the report I receive is favourable, you will be given a Community Payback Order but if you are not of good behaviour you will be remanded in custody.”
Fiancée backs attacker
A PENSIONER who assaulted his fiancée to her severe injury has said they still plan to marry.
William Morrison, 65, of Gala Park Gardens, Galashiels, has admitted on indictment assaulting the woman by striking her on the head at his home on September 26 last year.
He’s also admitted breaching a bail order not to contact her on November 15.
Morrison, whose fiancée was in court, had sentence deferred for a further assessment.
Defence solicitor Alison Marshall told the sheriff: “The relationship continues and she is with him in court today.”
She added:“They plan to get married.”
Morrison will be sentenced at Selkirk Sheriff Court on February 17.
