Thirty-six penalty charges were issued by NHS Borders staff on the first day parking restrictions were introduced at the BGH.
Up to Wednesday a total of 83 charges had been issued, the health board revealed to The Southern this week.
Meanwhile a Facebook page has been swamped by BGH staff concerned about the impact of the new regulations in the hospital’s grounds.
The ‘BGH Parking Fiasco’ page has attracted over 1,300 likes and over 200 comments from staff, patients and local people in less than a week.
Speaking to The Southern the page administrators said: “Our opinion is that the new parking in the main car park for improved patient parking is good and very helpful for patients, especially disabled or elderly ones.
“We simply feel that if you take away hundreds of parking spaces from staff use for these purposes you should create or offer the staff another dedicated area to park in within or near the grounds.”
Last week we reported on the huge increase in cars parked in Darnick because of the restrictions.
This week Bridget Khursheed, community councillor and chair of Darnick Village Trust, said: “We are a village with old fashioned narrow roads and little or no parking control and the community cannot accept being treated like this.
“Our community has been changed from a village to an overspill car park overnight. We really need a solution to this and fast.”
An NHS Borders spokesperson said studies prior to the scheme’s launch identified that there could be ‘displacement of vehicles to the surrounding roads network’.
They added: “The displacement of cars to off site locations shows us how many cars were parking all day nearer the hospital making the parking for shorter visits, such as visiting time and appointments merely impossible.”
The spokesperson added: “We recognise that change is difficult for many staff, however we have been encouraged to see the positive feedback noted from patients about their parking experiences since the system has been implemented.”
John Lamont MSP is to raise the matter when he meets with NHS Borders bosses tomorrow (Friday).
