Have a merry but safe Christmas

Police Scotland is carrying out a number of initiatives across the Borders to ensure communities have a safe and enjoyable festive season.

These began on Monday and will run until January 5, focusing on reducing violence, disorder and antisocial behaviour, domestic abuse, and increasing safety on our roads.

Local officers will be concentrating their high visibility foot patrols in areas that have been identified as hot spots for problems such as antisocial behaviour and disorder. These officers will engage with the community and enforce, detect and deter crimes in these areas to improve the safety of the community.

Winter weather can create more hazardous driving conditions, and as part of the festive campaign we will focus on keeping people safe on our roads.

Police will carry out high visibility road checks across the division, focusing on offenders who drive whilst disqualified, under the influence of alcohol or drugs or when using their mobile phone.

Chief Inspector Kenny Simpson commented: “We wish our communities to have a good time but a safe time throughout the festive period.

“We will ensure that robust action is taken against any offender who commits a crime.”
