The community’s involvement in a new health centre has been praised by the Lord Lieutenant of Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale.

The Hon Gerald Maitland-Carew carried out the official opening of Lauder Health Centre on Wednesday.

He told invited guests, including past and present GPs and practice staff: “It is a great privilege to be asked to formally open the new Lauder Health Centre.

“There has been significant involvement from the local communities in the project to build this wonderful facility, and today is an opportunity to celebrate this achievement.”

Representatives of Lauderdale and Oxton and Channelkirk community councils and the leader of SBC, David Parker, also attended the opening of the Crofts Road facility.

Pupils from Channelkirk Primary School presented a handmade mosaic artwork to the practice, which was created by eleven members of the school’s health committee.

The new centre, which opened for business in August, replaced the previous facilities in the Factors Park and Memorial Medical Centres.

John Raine, chairman of NHS Borders said: “I am delighted that the new health centre has been so well received by the Lauderdale community.

“The development of accessible local health services that enable people to receive the treatment they require as close to home as possible is a key element of the board’s strategy.”
