THE Arthurshiel Rescue Centre has been given a substantial boost in its bid to build a new small animal cattery at their St Boswells base thanks to The Weir Charitable Trust.
Fundraiser Sheena Chappell described the cash award as a ‘major donation’, which takes the charity closer to its £12,000 target.
She added that for over a year a series of fundraising challenges have been undertaken to help raise the money needed to build the much needed facility at the animal rescue centre.
Sheena said: “We have been fortunate to receive a number of generous personal donations towards the cattery, while our manager, Shona Middlemas, and three others raised a substantial amount in sponsorship towards the cattery in a personal challenge to climb a number of Munros, including Ben Nevis.
“The award from The Weir Charitable Trust takes us closer to our target and we hope to start work early in the spring of 2014.”
Lorraine Tait from The Weir Charitable Trust said: “The trust is pleased to support the great work Arthurshiel does to rescue and re-home animals across the Scottish Borders”.
