A PARTNERSHIP campaign to highlight new drug issues in the Borders has been presented with a national award.

The New Drug Trend programme, which was launched by SBC Safer Communities, Police Scotland and the Alcohol Drug Partnership (ADP), was recognised at the Scottish National Safer Communities Network Awards on Monday.

The programme included a media campaign, outreach work in licensed premises, a resource pack for schools, a drug trend monitoring group, and training of frontline staff.

PC Gillian Oliver, drugs and alcohol education officer, said: “This achievement is recognition once again for the strength of our partnership working between police, council and partner agencies within the Scottish Borders.

Susan Walker, ADP development officer, added: “Effective partnership working allowed us to ensure a reduction in hospital admissions, and a substantial increase in knowledge and awareness of harm reduction messages.”
