Yarrow Valley’s Sam McClymont took the Blackface championship at Moffat Show.
And while at Westruther Sheep Show, Lauder shepherd James Brady scooped the overall with another Blackie on Saturday.
The Moffat winner, a home-bred two-crop ewe, sired by a son of £4,600 Chirmorrie, had taken first at the Border Union and Yarrow shows as a gimmer.
Mr McClymont of Tinnis said: “We’ve been reserve before, but it’s the first time we’ve won the championship here.”
Judge Ian Thomson of Walkerburn, commented: “She’s just a good ewe, she’s a good specimen of the breed.”
And he said: “The top end of the classes in general were very good, but there were not enough of them, which is disappointing.”
Frequent poultry prizewinner, Dorinda Fontana from Peebles, took reserve best in show with a German Langshan pullet at her first show and said: “I’m aiming for the National Poultry Championships with her.”
Meanwhile, over at Westruther, Burncastle Farming’s Mr Brady made it three in a row with a Blackface ewe, sired by a £10,000 Dyke out of a £15,000 Milnmark, which was reserve champion at the Border Union Show, and won her class at Peebles earlier this summer.
Taking reserve was a Blueface ram from Professor Penny, Bothwell, Cranshaws, Duns. The overall judge was Tom Tennant, Gilmanscleuch, Selkirk.
Show secretary Fiona Marwick said: “We had a glorious day, with its usual great turnout of sheep and dogs. We held our first pet show this year, which was very well supported. We were delighted with the response from local pet owners.”
Well known triallist Bobby Henderson of Carcant, Heriot, judged the show’s sheepdog trial, won by Ross Henderson, Windydoors, Galashiels, with Glen, scoring 89 points.
Also last month, Gordon and David Gray of Sunnyside, Selkirk, scooped the interbreed champion at Abingdon Show with a Texel gimmer from their successful Ettrick flock.
