At their weekly Primestock sale last Wednesday John Swan Ltd had forward and sold 1,016 lambs and 398 ewes.
Brighter weather conditions and show six day rule curtailed accurate numbers, again all buyers present resulting in trade leaving early week markets behind.

John Swan Ltd sold 67 clean cattle, 31 OTM cattle, 2,193 new season lambs and 1,436 ewes.
Bullocks (27) averaged 242.7p per kg and sold to 259p (+0.5p on week), heifers (37) averaged 243.9p per kg and sold to 269p (+9.9p on the week), three young bulls averaged 213.8p per kg and sold to 229p (n/c on the week) and 31 beef type OTM cattle averaged 137.4p per kg and sold to 197p (n/c on the week).
New season lambs averaged 181.7p per kg (+1.6p on week) and sold to £95.50 and ewes averaged £46.88 and sold to £111. Heavy ewes £61.24, light ewes £37.84.

Last week Border Livestock Exchange sold 84 prime cattle, 2,097 prime lambs, 2,480 store lambs and 62 store cattle.
Cattle numbers tightening with harvest in full swing and trade subsequently firmer. AA x steers from Fenwick Steads, Belford, sold to 450p to Well Hung and Tender, Berwick. Cast cows were also firmer with Simmental x from Easington Grange, Belford, selling to 300p.
Prime lambs were similar to sell with fleshy lambs commanding a premium reaching 415p for continental crosses from Blackcastle, Cherrytrees and Newlands, Belford.
Store lambs, tremendous numbers selling to regular buyers direct from farm to farm. Prices for longer keeping lambs would be very similar to last year’s good trade. Chev x £53.50 Easycare £50.00 Beulah cross £50 with Suffolk and Texel crosses selling to £58.50.
