TWO of the most enduring musical forces in the Borders will come together for an impromptu one-off gig in the Bridge Inn, Galashiels, on Boxing Day from 4 till 7pm.
The Border Boogie Band normally keep the festive period free, save for their annual Hogmanay bash in the Wynd Theatre, Melrose.
But this year, with guitarist Frank Usher returning this week from an extended European tour with former Marillion front man Fish, the veteran rock/soulsters are only minus drummer David Little (on his annual pilgrimage to the far north) so they have drafted in the phenomenon that is Lauder’s Mike Whellans to play drums for the afternoon session at the Bridge.
“I’ve wanted to play with these guys for years,” said Whellans, who will also add to the boogie mix with his trademark harmonica. “It should be a blast”.
Meanwhile, the Wynd has marginally increased its capacity for the Border Boogie Band’s gig on December 31. For a chance to secure the few extra tickets contact 01896 758773 (no tickets will be available at the door).
