A 22-year-old Hawick rugby player will be sentenced next month after he admitted assaulting a man to the danger of his life in a Galashiels street.
Greg Anderson, of Heronhill Bank, who played in Hawick’s first game back in the Premiership at the weekend, appeared in court on Tuesday.
He admitted punching the man on the head in Market Street, Galashiels, on November 30. The punch caused the man to fall to the ground, causing him severe injury and disfigurement.
A not guilty plea to attempting to pervert the course of justice was accepted by the Crown.
Sentence was deferred until September 30 for background reports.
Anderson had been due to stand trial by jury on September 9 after initially denying the assault.
