Scottish Government’s cabinet hold public meeting in Hawick today

Scottish Government ministers will today conclude their cabinet visit to Hawick today with a public meeting.

Yesterday, ministers took in various projects across the region. First Minister Alex Salmond visited Hawick’s Wilton Lodge Park to announce £77,000 worth of funding for new tennis courts in the green space.

While at Wilton Lodge Park, Mr Salmond was also presented with an England top with his name on the back and a Union Jack flag by members of BBC Radio 4’s Just A Minute programme.

Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop went to Abbotsford House to present a copy of a letter written by Sir Walter Scott to the Marquess of Lothian in 1826.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill went to Selkirk Football Club and Hawick Cemetery to see work carried out by criminals on community payback orders.

And Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Paul Wheelhouse, who is also South of Scotland MSP, opened a Tweed Valley Railway Path at Cardrona and saw work going on to lower the flood risk in Eddleston and Peebles.
