CERTAIN housing projects in the Borders have proved so successful that they have been rolled out elsewhere in Scotland.
The schemes, involving the Scottish Futures Trust (SFT), have been highlighted this week as the SFT has unveiled £132 million of savings and benefits secured in the past 12 months.
Tweed Homes’ development of 26 new affordable homes for mid-market rent in Galashiels and a further 25 apartments in Innerleithen were part of an innovative pilot project involving the SFT and the council.
The SFT was also involved with Scotland’s first National Housing Trust project in Scotland, at Balnakiel in Galashiels.
This development was opened in 2011 and is now fully occupied.
The initiative resulted in £146million of additional investment into Scotland’s housing market, with contracts signed to build more than 1,000 new homes.
