On-going work in Hay Lodge Park sees this year’s Peebles Show move out of town to fields opposite the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel on the A72 on Saturday.

Show secretary Jacqui Campbell said: “We are lucky to have the use of two fields at Nether Horsburgh and we’re very grateful to the Renwick family and Forestry Commission Scotland.

“It’s flat which means that everything is easily accessed but it’s slightly out of town.”

So organisers are laying on free shuttle buses from Innerleithen’s Co-op and Peebles Post Office starting at 10am and there is free secure bike parking at the showground, which is on the off-road cycle path between Peebles and Innerleithen.

Mrs Campbell continued: “Entries for the show are looking excellent. Horse entries are about a third up on the year. The sheep are up on the year and cattle entries are good – we have got over 130.

“In the sheep, the Blackies look to be in the region of 170-180. We are very fortunate, we have a strong steward and very loyal competitors. It’s a show that’s worth winning.”

In the crooks section, there are 30 sticks entered and the Clydesdales classes “are looking stronger” she said.

The poultry show, Scotland’s largest one day fowl show, has attracted record entries, and the craft tent is full.

Entries are taken on the day for the dog show at 11am and for the pet show at 3pm.

And Mrs Campbell said: “We are grateful to the local Round Table who are supplying the beer tent again, with profits going to a charity of their choice.”
