POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a 24-year-old man was killed in a two-car crash on the northern outskirts of Galashiels.
Fire crews freed the man from Citroen Saxo he was driving but he died at the Borders General Hospital. Police say his family was by his side.
The driver, who has not yet been named, was heading south on the A7 when a collision occurred with a north-bound Skoda Octavia at 5.20pm on Wednesday.
The Skoda driver was treated overnight in hospital with what police describe as minor injuries.
Both drivers were alone and the road was closed until around 11pm while accident investigators examined the vehicles and the scene.
Their investigation is continuing and police want to hear from any witnesses and in particular three occupants of a works vehicle - possibly a flatbed van - who gave assistance prior to the arrival of emergency services.
