KELSO swimming pool is due to close for 12 weeks next month for a major refurbishment.
The news follows the announcement this week by the Borders Sport and Leisure Trust, which manages the pool, that it has secured £452,850 to carry out the work.
The investment will be provided via a SportScotland grant in addition to a contribution from Scottish Borders Council.
The refurbishment project will involve the creation of a new unisex changing area, a reception area, open viewing gallery and a multi-use room which will be available for exercise classes and functions.
Trust chief executive Ewan Jackson told us: “We are delighted that the loyal users of the pool will soon be able to enjoy, not only contemporary, modern changing facilities, but also benefit from the addition of a new multi-use studio.
“We hope that once the refurbishment is complete even more people will choose to visit the pool and get active more often through the diverse mix of classes and activities that will be on offer.”
Trustee and SBC’s executive member for Sport Councillor Graham Garvie added: “We are delighted these major refurbishments are going ahead. I am certain these improvements will encourage more people of all ages to use the pool regularly at a time of increasing emphasis on healthy living and the clear benefits exercise can bring”.
The pool will close on March 16. It is estimated the refurbishment work will take about 12 weeks.
