THE Tweed Valley Guides are off to Switzerland in July and hope a ceilidh will help raise much-needed funds for this exciting adventure of a lifetime.

Since 2010, a group of leaders and guides have been raising funds for some of the exciting activities to be experienced on the trip.

Activities will now include white-water rafting, a visit to Our Chalet – Home of World Guiding, Kandersteg International Scout centre, a toboggan run, swimming in a mountain top outdoor pool, a visit to a woodcarver, a Swiss evening and an adventure park which includes abseiling, zip wires and high ropes.

Organisers Kirsteen Mackenzie and Gail Fox are very proud of the Tweed Valley Guides. Kirsteen said: “There were a few sore arms from the bag-pack events prior to Christmas, but all the guides are raring to continue their fundraising efforts.”

Another bag-packing event was held at Asda last month and the group has already achieved just over half of its target.

Gail said: “We are so thankful to the people of Galashiels and surrounding area who have generously donated to help these local guides have an unforgettable experience – we just need the final push to get to our target.

“The main fundraising event this year is a ceilidh at Tweedbank Community Centre on February 18, and we hope guides, their families and friends will attend this fun family evening.”

The ceilidh will be at the Barns, Tweedbank Community Centre. Tickets, £7 single/£25 for four adults or family are available from Gail on 01896 753433. The price includes hot food and there will be a licensed bar.
