A MAN appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday charged with falsely reporting a break-in at a Borders hotel and attempting to fraudulently obtain £32,848 insurance.

Samuel McKeen, of Dolphin Hotel, North Street, Eyemouth, had a further first hearing set for May 13.

The fifty-seven-year-old is due to stand trial by jury on May 21.

McKeen appeared on indictment and denied falsely reporting a theft by housebreaking at the hotel on December 16, 2010. He also pleaded not guilty to attempting to obtain insurance payments of £32,848.58 by fraud between December 16, 2010, and March 30, 2011.
