Police looking into a three-month spate of vandalism in the Woodside Place area of Galashiels have pledged to up their fight to collar those responsible.

Between October and this month, 16 motor vehicles have been targeted and officers have issued a fresh plea for assistance.

A police spokesman at divisional headquarters in Hawick said: “The owners of the vehicles, some of whom are repeat victims, are becoming increasingly concerned that their vehicles are being targeted for unknown reasons.”

Woodside Place is a road that runs off Lee Brae and joins Windyknowe Road.

The police spokesman went on: “The level of damage caused to these vehicles varies, but the crimes committed collectively over the period, accumulate to substantial financial loss to the owners.

“We will be conducting more high-visibility patrols in this area in an attempt to bring those responsible to justice.

“However, in the meantime, we would like to hear from anyone who has witnessed any of these incidents taking place.”

“I would appeal to anyone who has information which could assist us with our enquiries or which could lead to the identification of those responsible, to contact Galashiels police station as soon as possible.

“Alternatively, if members of the public would prefer to pass information through Crimestoppers, they can do so by contacting them on 0800 555 111”
