Bosses have been advised to look at both the risks and the challenges created by next year’s referendum on independence.
Graeme Blacket, the managing director of consultancy firm Biggar Economics, told the Scottish Borders Chambers of Commerce they should be looking at the issues now.
He told members: “There is going to be a referendum and change is coming, so you need to be thinking about that. But it’s not just about risk. You also need to look for business opportunities. For instance, even in the short term, it is already clear that the debate will raise Scotland’s international profile. There are possibilities there.”
Chamber convener James Aitken said later: “Each company needs to look at its own circumstances, evaluate its strengths and weaknesses in each potential scenario, and make its voice heard.”
